The African Diaspora Ensemble (ADÉ) is comprised of experienced cultural and historical interpreters: Slam Stewart, Becky Stewart, Tanyah Dadze Cotton, and Alberto Limon Perez. They are dedicated to showcasing the music brought to the New World by enslaved Africans between 1619 and 1800. Through workshops, presentations, ceremonies, and concerts, the group delves into the music played by the enslaved during that era and demonstrates how our current culture continues those musical traditions. ADÉ collaborates with historical sites throughout Virginia, including Stratford Historical Preserve, Patrick Henry’s Red Hill, and George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
